Volunteers Wanted – Help Preserve Buckley’s History

The Buckley Society is looking for volunteers to help develop and maintain its growing Community Archive. Our aim is to create a fully accessible archive that allows the public to easily explore Buckley’s remarkable collection of photographs, documents, artefacts, and local history materials.
If you have an interest in local history, archives, heritage, research, or digital preservation, we would love to hear from you.
Community Archive
The Buckley Society Archive is a Community Multi-Media Archive (COMMA), developed over the past fifteen years using the COMMA Net programme. During that time, around 290 contributors have helped build an invaluable resource that captures both the formal and informal history of Buckley.
The archive complements and supports the wider work of the Society and contains a rich variety of material, including photographs, documents, written memories, newspaper articles, and historical records. Contributions have ranged from single photographs or short written pieces to extensive collections and specially prepared local history projects created by individuals and community groups.
This project has grown thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of the archive team, who meet regularly to continue developing the collection. We would also like to thank Community Librarian Mandy Glendinning and the staff at Buckley Library for their continued help and support.
We are grateful for the financial assistance received during the early stages of the project from:
- The Heritage Lottery Fund – Awards for All Wales
- Buckley Town Council
- Joe Chesters
Please note that all archive contents are protected by copyright.
Want to Help or Contribute?
The archive team meets on the last Wednesday of every month from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Buckley Library (except during August).
Everyone is welcome to visit us at the library to:
- Bring along items for inclusion in the archive
- Explore the archive collection
- Meet the team
- Share memories and stories about Buckley’s past
These sessions are friendly, informal, and increasingly popular within the community.
